What would you do for all the money in the world? Or to get with the girl of your dreams? What if you could make other people do anything you told them? What if all this and more could be yours just for winning a race…against the devil?
A long-abandoned church on top of a mountain in the Pennsylvania backwoods is where the devil waits for anyone brave enough to challenge him. The course runs from the gate, through the cemetery, to the church doors.
If you win, the prize is yours.
If you lose…you die at sunrise.
Sounds simple, doesn’t it?
To four college students looking for a good time, nothing could be further from the truth.

Jake loves his job working for a local family-owned craft ice cream factory. That is, until he’s transferred to the company’s main facility on the other side of town. The new workplace means new rules. And that means no more showing up on the job stoned and having two beers for lunch. The new position makes him uncomfortable and, while he’s told there are numerous coworkers, they never seem to be around much when he’s there. When his best friend goes missing and his new supervisors show up at a party, Jake begins to dig deeper. All of the strange occurrences seem to connect to a discontinued role-playing game Jake owned as a child, Mage of the Hellmouth. It all leaves Jake wondering what secrets are hidden in the ice cream.

Her disappearance left behind both lingering sorrow and many unanswered questions. Was Breann a victim of a now-convicted serial killer? Will Krista and her family succumb to the evil bound to the lake house? Is Breann still somewhere close, waiting to be discovered? THE SHAPES OF NIGHT by Mary SanGiovanni
Sometimes, in Bloomwood County, New Jersey, children go missing. Sometimes those children die. And sometimes, strange and alien shapes of night resurrect the bodies of those children for their own. When Tim Jenkins has a terrible vision of one of his former students, Charlie Bentner, being mangled to death, he seeks Charlie out and unknowingly entangles both of them in a battle against time and space itself, a race against the shapes to stop an evil from entering our world and changing its geometry forever.
And for those who prefer hardcovers. The pre-order window for these is only 1 week. The print run will be based on the number of pre-orders received by 3/7. For those of you who bought the Nemesai hardcover, these will be produced in a similar style. These are being sold as 2 book sets.
First 2021 Update. Shipping Status. My status. 2 New books in-stock!
Hello all,
Many of you may know that I have been fighting Covid the last 3 weeks. I debated how much I should reveal about what I personally went through. I decided to just cut to the chase to say my doctor is very optimistic about my progress and I seem to be out of the woods. The last remaining issue (as far as I can tell) is fatigue levels. Some days, I hardly notice anything and it feels like a normal day. Most days, I get extremely tired to the point of exhaustion even after only a couple hours of work. My heart goes out to all the people still suffering because of this pandemic.
I want to thank Brian Keene, Bryan Smith, and Paul Tremblay. I appreciate the patience. It is not easy to have a “changing” release date. And to all the customers who bought their recent titles from me, I thank you for the orders. The good news is that I have started to ship Suburban Gothic, The Little Sleep, and No Sleep Till Wonderland.
I also want to give extra thanks to Brian Keene for updating via his social media the status of how I was doing throughout these last couple of weeks. And to everyone who sent their prayers and well wishes, I sincerely thank you.
NOW SHIPPING:
A couple of notes: Suburban Gothic is sold out. I have copies of The Little Sleep and No Sleep Till Wonderland available. You can click on the cover images to place your order.
In addition to these books that have been sitting in my office since Dec 2020, I have two brand new January 2021 titles that I am ready to announce. These books are also in-stock and shipping. These books will probably sell out relatively fast so get your orders in early.
LAKEHOUSE INFERNAL by Christine Morgan. Cover art by Danielle Serra. Introduction by Edward Lee. Winner of the 2020 Splatterpunk Award for Best Novel. Only 45 copies for sale!
“Lakehouse Infernal is the coolest, ball-bustingest, most outrageous, and most ENTERTAINING horror novel you’re likely to find in a long time.” – Edward Lee author of CITY INFERNAL
Lake Misquamicus was an unremarkable lake in Florida, unremarkable that is until suddenly it was filled with six billion gallons of blood, bile, pus, piss, shit and …things… directly from the pits of Hell. First the public was in shock, then the government built a wall, and as time passed it became another urban legend. But for some, it has become a travel destination. Spring-breakers, drug-runners, and religious nuts. But a weekend getaway on the shores of Hell, may not be the safest idea…
With an introduction by and officially endorsed by splatterpunk legend Edward Lee, LAKEHOUSE INFERNAL is an official entree in Lee’s infamous INFERNAL series. Christine Morgan (SPERMJACKERS FROM HELL) expands on this universe with her own twist of hardcore horror tourism.
“Think Spring Break, only instead of a beach house, it’s a lakehouse, but the lakehouse IS IN FUCKIN’ HELL, that’s right, a chunk of Hell that’s been upheaved and pushed up into our pretty little world–sunny Florida, no less!” – Edward Lee
THE HOBGOBLIN OF LITTLE MINDS by Mark Matthews. Cover art by Vincent Chong. Only 45 copies for sale!
Kori Persephone Driscoe suffered through her dad’s mental illness. All she wanted was for him to get better, but instead he disappeared. Kori trespasses into the abandoned Northville Psychiatric Hospital, the last place her dad was treated, seeking solace and traces of his memory. What she finds instead is something no longer human living deep in the underground tunnels.
During the last days of the hospital, a roque psychiatrist had been manipulating the mood swings of the mentally ill, transforming patients into savage, manic creatures who seek justice by the light of the full moon. When the creatures hunt for prey, only an escaped patient and her beloved child can help Kori survive–but they better act fast, because the creatures want blood, Kori wants to save her dad, and the whole hospital is about to be blown to pieces and bury Kori alive.
Some praise for this book:
“A wickedly clever take on a well-worn trope, The Hobgoblin of Little Minds explores lycanthropy through the lens of mental illness and shows Matthews at the height of his powers as a cartographer of the many shades of darkness that inhabit human minds. This bleak, Odyssean, and impeccably well-wrought fable proves what many of us have known for quite some time: Mark Matthews is the reigning king of modern psychological horror.”
~KEALAN PATRICK BURKE, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Kin
“Matthews delivers a shocking new asylum mythos. At Northville Psychiatric Hospital, longstanding literary horrors of tunnels, malign treatments, and twisted minds receive new Frankensteinian life, patched together into a frightful blend of existential dread and family entanglements.”
~TROY RONDINONE, PhD, author of Nightmare Factories
“A stunningly daring descent into madness. Dank, dark and scary as hell. Brimming with tragic characters and monstrous villains–think Nurse Ratched by way of Dr. Moreau under the direction of Cronenberg. Proves once and for all that reality is often the strongest fuel for the nightmares burning bright. This one is a belter. An absolute beast!”
~JOHN BODEN, author of Spungunion and Walk the Darkness Down
“Matthews twists pioneering ideas from epigenetics and neuroscience into a classic horror tale, producing a nightmarish adventure that breathes new life into the werewolf legend.”~BILL SULLIVAN, Ph.D, Professor of Pharmacology at Indiana University
“As a new take on the werewolf story, it is a fascinating read, but as a deep dive into the realities of mental illness, the book is an absolute triumph.”

The second to last topic I want to cover today is the SPLATTER WESTERN LIMITED EDITION HARDBACKS that Death’s Head Press and Thunderstorm Books are producing together. Direct copies of these books sold out very quickly (on-line booksellers will be carrying copies). Jarod and I are working on some final touches right now. Expect an official announcement of where we are at before the end of the month (either 1/24 or 1/31). Shipping will commence shortly thereafter.
One final note: if you email me, there may be delays in my response. I usually try and respond to emails within 48 hours, but given how far I am behind on everything right now, sometimes emails will take a back seat to other tasks. I will get through them eventually and hopefully by early February Thunderstorm Books will be back to running efficiently (as much as I was in the past anyway).
